Dealing With The Monster Inside All Of Us (Road Rage)

Have you ever been driving and see someone else driving aggressively? It can be scary, especially for new drivers. As the holidays approach, we may need to all take a minute and figure out how to deal with the monster inside of all of us–that is, road rage.

Road rage comes in many forms, including unsafe lane changes, tailgating, honking horns, swerving into other lanes of traffic, and more. We sometimes get frustrated when driving on the road—it is one of the most frustrating aspects of modern life! However, it's important to remember that some people take their frustration to another level by lashing out at other drivers or even assaulting them physically. It's also important to remember that road rage drivers can come from any corner on any given day; they may even be someone you know!

Know The Things That Bug You The Most.

We all sometimes get frustrated when driving. Many things can cause us to feel angry while behind the wheel, such as aggressive drivers, bad weather conditions, and even congestion on the road. But one of the more common causes of road rage is when a driver does something unexpected and causes you to react in anger.

This can be incredibly frustrating if other drivers make it difficult for you to drive or be safe. Try to be mindful of what makes you the angriest–and react as a defensive driver in situations that may reflect it.

Try To Keep Your Head On Straight.

You never know who is driving next to you. It is essential to remain calm and be cautious of those around you. Don’t let your emotions take over. If someone acts aggressively towards you, do not engage them in any way; just be aware that they are there and may cause harm if provoked.

Additionally, if someone does try to provoke a confrontation with you, stay calm; do not engage in their behavior, as this could lead to an escalation of the situation and/or possibly even injury on either party's part (or both).

Don’t Engage With Other Road-Raging Drivers.

It's not the best thing to do, but if you find yourself in a situation where someone is road raging, the worst thing that could happen is to engage. If they're trying to get your attention, don't give them what they want, and keep driving. If you're in a situation where it seems like an accident could happen because of their reckless driving, stay calm and call 911.

Don't let these people get under your skin; if they can rile up even one driver on the road with their behavior, then that's one less driver who can drive safely and responsibly for everyone else on the road (and potentially lead to an accident).

Be Mindful When You’re Angry.

Be mindful of your thoughts and emotions, especially if your kids are in the car. Remember, as their role model, you’re showing them firsthand how to deal with frustration and difficult people. You can take deep breaths, turn on your favorite station, or even pull over if you feel you can’t continue. Most importantly, be aware of your body language. Remember that you are driving a car, not a tank.
