Japanese Imports in the Sizzling Summer

Welcome to the May blog for Import Auto Specialists! We hope that April was kind to you and your family and that immunizations are scheduled if not yet done. Things are beginning to reopen everywhere, and we hope everyone stays just ahead of the virus and keeps wearing those masks until they hear otherwise from the government!

We’re deep in Spring, and while May showers aren’t guaranteed, we can bet that Summer is just around the corner. The Summer heat can be brutal on your car and you. Being in a space with glass windows in the sun is solar cooking, so do your best to minimize the Summer’s traumatic heat when it arrives. Here are some tips for how to handle it

  • Be tactile. Try shopping in the evening when you can, to avoid leaving your car in the summer heat. If you must go in during the day, make sure to note all the shady spots you can find in the parking lot. Instead of planning for a speed time indoors, plan to have some cover and not need to be fast when shopping for your needs.

  • Invest in a window shade (sunscreen) for your front window. A sunscreen visor is a great way to keep the sun from boiling into the fixtures and the interior seating. Most sunscreens fold away for efficient storage.

  • Pump out the bad air. When you arrive at your car, open your back windows, and then open the door wide and bring it nearly to shut again and again so that the door forces cooler air into the car while pushing hot air out the back windows. The remaining heat will drain less harshly on your air conditioning.

  • Get your fluids right. You’re not the only one who needs to stay hydrated. Your car needs oil and coolant to keep cool. We can take care of that for you at Import!

We’re hoping this Summer will be great for your entire family and that everyone stays safe. Remember that if you need your AC checked out or your fluids topped up, it’s best to stop in at Import Auto and get an inspection before you go on any long trips.
